George Steidl, 68

George A. Steidl, 68, Carlos, died peacefully Saturday, March 13, 2010 at his home, following a courageous battle with cancer.

George A. Steidl, 68, Carlos, died peacefully Saturday, March 13, 2010 at his home, following a courageous battle with cancer.

George was born January 22, 1942 in Spruce Hill Township to Peter and Angline (Beheng) Steidl. He helped his dad farm until 1960. He worked road construction before entering the U.S. Army in 1961, where he served two years in Panama. Following his honorable discharge he returned home and drove can milk truck for a year, returned to road construction for two years before working for the Miltona Locker Plant for a year.

He owned and operated bulk milk trucks for 15 years, sold to Land O’ Lakes and drove for them another 15 years. He returned to road construction, working another seven years, part-time until 2009, when he became ill.

He was united in marriage to Carol Sales on November 24, 1967 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River, of which he was a life member. Following their marriage they had five children. He was a member of the Miltona Lions, V.F.W. Post 7826 and the fire department. He loved the outdoors and was a jack-of-all-trades.

George is survived by his wife, Carol; three daughters, Catherine Johnson of Osakis, Tammy (John) Westerberg of Miltona, GeorgeAnn (Ryan) Hauger of Sierra Vista, Arizona; son, Kent (April) Steidl of Miltona; mother-in-law, Marjorie Sales of Clarissa; three sisters, Angline (Bill) Swansen of Edina, Marjorie (Stan) Hagerdorn of Kasson and Kathleen (Darren) Nelson of Parkers Prairie; a brother, Dewey (Rose) Steidl of Miltona; 13 grandchildren, Kyle Thieschafer Jr., Ashlee Thieschafer, Trent Johnson, Chris Westerberg, Beth Westerberg, Mitch Westerberg, Sam Steidl, Myranda Steidl, Krystal Chermak, Shiann Heurung, Heather Barten, Michael Barten and Andrew Hauger; brother-in-law, Gary (Debbie) Sales of Clarissa; four sisters-in-law, Diane (Gene) Odenbrett of Apple Valley, Judy Steidl of Miltona, Josey Nelson and Cindy Lund, both of Alexandria; along with many nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, George A. Steidl Jr.; his parents; four brothers, Warner Steidl, Joe Steidl, John Steidl and Nick Steidl; two nephews, Chuck Steidl and Donavon Steidl; and a niece, Janice Swansen.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 20 at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River with Fr. Dave Petron officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Ivy Christensen and vocalist, Dedra Zwieg. Burial will take place at the church cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Camp Ripley Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Vern Steidl, Brian Steidl, Rick Steidl, Roger Steidl, Dennis Sales and Kyle Nelson. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, the Miltona V.F.W. Post 7826, and Miltona Fire Department.

Visitation will be Friday, March 19 from 4 to 8 p.m., with 7 p.m., parish prayers at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
