Alexandria public schools have been awarded a Minnesota Department of Education School Finance Award for 2010.

The award reflects a compliance with Minnesota statutes on selected finance issues.

It also reflects a proactive stance by the district on positive fund balances, sound fiscal policies and practices, training initiatives and accountability.

The awards were given in February 2010 using fiscal year 2009 data.

Alexandria is one of 68 school districts (out of 340 traditional school districts reporting) in the state to qualify for this award.

The School Finance Award program was begun in 2003 by the Minnesota Department of Education.

Each year the award was clarified and is now more rigorous than before.

Over the years, Alexandria public schools have received this prestigious financial reporting honor six times.
