Arlouine Gwendolyn Stevens, 89, died Sunday, February 28, 2010 at her residence at Stevens Homes Plus in Barrett.
Arlouine was born May 20, 1920 to Oscar and Sylvia (Sorenson) Anderson in Iona. She grew up in Murray County where she attended country school and attended Solem Lutheran Church.
On December 1, 1939, Arlouine was united in marriage to Frank W. Stevens in South Dakota. They made their home on a farm in the Lake Wilson area until 1948, when the couple moved to the Kensington area. Arlouine and Frank shared 40 years of marriage before Frank passed away on July 25, 1980.
Arlouine was a loving homemaker, raising seven children. After her children were gone she started working at Radisson Arrowwood in Alexandria, where she continued to work for 20 years. She enjoyed traveling, watching the Minnesota Twins, and crossword puzzles. She especially loved her grandchildren and visiting with her family and friends. Arlouine will be remembered for the love and care she showed for her family.
Arlouine is survived by her children, Frank Jr. (Maxine) Stevens of Kensington, Sharon Stevens of Kensington, Jan (Floyd) Latuff of Hastings, Valerie (Waldo) Johnson of Hoffman, Deb Schmidt of St. Croix Beach, and Glenn Stevens of Onamia; a special nephew, Doug (Donna) Stevens of Barrett, whom she raised from age 8; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Duane (Charlene) Anderson of San Diego, CA and Chuck (Donna) Anderson of Phoenix AZ.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters and three brothers.
A special thanks and appreciation to Doug and Donna and the staff for creating a special home for mom when she became unable to care for herself. Opening up your home to her made the time we spent with her more memorable and knowing she was being cared for in a family setting was a comfort to us all. Frank, Sharon, Jan, Val, Deb and Glenn.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 6 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hoffman. Visitation will be on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Interment will be at Solem Lutheran Cemetery in Kensington.
Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
