Townships need your vote Tuesday

It’s that time of year again – when residents throughout Douglas County have the chance to let their voices be heard.

It’s that time of year again – when residents throughout Douglas County have the chance to let their voices be heard.

Township elections, which will take place in 19 of the 20 townships, are set for Tuesday, March 9. Polls will open at various times, but will all close at 8 p.m. (Brandon Township elections take place in November.)

Open positions in most of the townships include a two-year clerk seat and a three-year supervisor position.

And most of the races are uncontested. Three of the 19 townships holding elections have contested races – Carlos, Ida and Leaf Valley.

Here is a breakdown of the township elections:

Alexandria

Both supervisor incumbents have refiled and will be running unopposed – Joel Dahlheimer and Louis Ross. The clerk is an appointed position.

Polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m., with the annual meeting to follow.

Belle River

Geri Rindahl refiled for the clerk position and will be running unopposed, and Roderick L. Seward has refiled for the supervisor position and will be running unopposed.

Polls will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. with the annual meeting to follow.

Brandon

Brandon Township elections now take place in November with the regular election. The annual meeting, however, will take place Tuesday, March 9 at 7 p.m. at the Brandon Community Center.

Carlos

Rebecca Anderson has refiled for the clerk position and will be running unopposed, as will Dwayne Waldorf, who has refiled for a three-year supervisor position.

Incumbent Rodney Meyers refiled for a one-year supervisor position and will be running against newcomer, Bill Krivanek.

Polls will be open from 4 to 8 p.m., with the annual meeting to follow.

Evansville

There is one two-year clerk position open and one three-year supervisor position open. Kim Ostlund has refiled for the clerk position and will be running unopposed. No one filed for the supervisor position, which is currently held by Kay Satterlie.

Polls will be open from 5 to 8 p.m., with the annual meeting to follow at 8:15 p.m.

Holmes City

Gerald Prchal has refiled for his position of clerk/treasurer and Ronald Klimek has refiled for the supervisor position. Neither face any challengers.

Polls will be open from 3 to 8 p.m., with the annual meeting to follow.

Hudson

Joan Eastlund, clerk, and Daniel New, supervisor, have both refiled for their positions. They are running unopposed.

The polls will be open from 4 to 8 p.m., with the annual meeting to follow.

Ida

Two people filed for the open supervisor seat – incumbent Orin “Clet” Blegen and newcomer Daniel Diedrich.

Incumbent Barbara Kilgore has refiled for the clerk position and will be running unopposed.

The polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m., with the annual meeting to follow.

LaGrand

Richard Bromley has refiled for the three-year supervisor position. He will be running unopposed. The clerk is an appointed position.

The polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m., with the annual meeting to follow.

Lake Mary

Both incumbents – Bonnie Lay for clerk and Dean Radil for supervisor – have refiled and face no challengers.

The polls will be open from 2 to 8 p.m., with the annual meeting set to follow at 8:15 p.m.

Leaf Valley

Two candidates have filed for one three-year supervisor term – Dale Diedrich and Dale Vollmers, who was appointed to the board last year. A new candidate, Wade Nibbe, is running unopposed for a two-year supervisor position, which Vollmers previously held.

Clerk Pam Cuperus refiled and faces no challengers.

Polls will be open from 3 to 8 p.m. with the annual meeting to follow at 8:15 p.m.

Lund

Michelle Olsen, clerk, and Wayne Martin, supervisor, have both refiled for their positions. Both are running unopposed.

Polls will be open from 5 to 8 p.m., with the annual meeting to follow.

Millerville

All three incumbents refiled for their positions and will be running unopposed, including Marilyn Bitzan for clerk, Pat Bock for supervisor and Kenneth Kuhn for supervisor.

Polls are open from 3 to 8 p.m., with the annual meeting to follow.

Miltona

Both incumbents have refiled and face no challengers – Tom Blank for clerk and Gary Anderson for supervisor.

Polls are open from 4 to 8 p.m., with the annual meeting to follow.

Moe

Both incumbents have refiled for their positions – Wayne E. Becker for the two-year clerk position and Bruce Strandskov for the three-year supervisor position.

Polls are open from 5 to 8 p.m., with the annual meeting to follow.

Orange

Both incumbents – Jennifer Dietrich for clerk and David Boogaard for supervisor – have refiled and face no challengers.

Polls will open after the annual meeting, which is slated for 3 p.m.

Osakis

Gene Rasmusen has refiled for the three-year supervisor term and will be running unopposed. Dawn McNeal will also be running unopposed. She refiled for the two-year clerk position.

Polls will be open from 5 to 8 p.m., with the annual meeting to follow at 8:10 p.m.

Solem

Jaclyn Halvorson, clerk, refiled for her position and will be running unopposed. Joe Martinson refiled for the three-year supervisor position and will also be running unopposed.

The annual meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. with polls open from 5 to 8 p.m.

Spruce Hill

Colleen Burquest has refiled for the two-year clerk position. She will be running unopposed. There is one three-year supervisor position open, which is currently held by Richard Schlosser. No one filed for the position.

The polls will be open from 1 to 8 p.m., with the annual meeting to follow at 8:15 p.m.

Urness

Judi Andreasen has refiled for the two-year clerk position. She will be running unopposed. Brent Johnson refiled for the three-year supervisor position. He will also be running unopposed.

The polls will be open from 5 to 8 p.m., with the annual meeting set to take place prior at 4 p.m.
