Evangeline Anderson, 104

Evangeline Hilda Anderson, 104, died February 22, 2010 at her home.

Evangeline “Vangie” was born May 3, 1905 in Alexandria to Einar and Gina (Jenssen) Steen. She attended Oscar Lake Country School and grew up in that area. As a young girl she learned to play piano and was the church organist at Trysil Lutheran Church at age 16.

Vangie was united in marriage to David Anderson on November 29, 1924. The couple built a home in 1925 with rough-sawn lumber that was cut down, transported across the frozen lake and milled in Holmes City. Vangie continued to live in this house until her death.

The couple farmed and raised three boys in that area. Vangie also taught music lessons and worked for a period of time at the Country Lane Nursery.

Vangie loved to garden and also enjoyed music very much. She enjoyed playing concert piano pieces. She was also known for making “real” root beer and her famous peanut butter cookies.

She is survived by her sons, Paul (Mary) Anderson of Alexandria and Vern (Judy) Anderson of Alexandria; grandchildren, Tom (Kim) Anderson, Jerry (Tracy) Anderson, Jeff (Penny) Anderson, Kim (Terry) Singsank and Gary (Stacey) Anderson; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Lundeen of Alexandria; brother-in-law, Clarence Sperling of Alexandria; and sisters-in-law, Julie Gunderson, Ruth Steen and Donna Steen.

Vangie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David, in 1992; son, David Jr., in 1963; brothers, Arnold, Victor and Olaf; and sister, Doris Sperling.

Funeral services for Vangie were held Friday, February 26 at Living Waters Church in Alexandria with the Rev. Jim Resa officiating. Music was provided by Pam Anderson and the Anderson family. Interment was at Reno Mission Cemetery with Jeff Anderson, Gary Anderson, Tom Anderson, Jerry Anderson, Paul Anderson and Vern Anderson serving as pallbearers.
