In celebration of “I Love to Read” month, families of kindergarten through 3rd grade students at Woodland Elementary School in Alexandria recently participated in a “mystery readers” evening.

Four mystery readers, Officer Jeremy Olson with the Alexandria Police Department, Fire Marshal Dennis Stark, special education teacher Troy Mickelson, and teacher mentorship coordinator Darla Harstad, were the readers.

Each reader introduced the book, read to the family and students, discussed the book and then told the families how they use reading at their job. The families then asked the reader questions about the book, their jobs and families.

After listening to three books, the families gathered in the cafeteria to have a snack and talk with other families. More than 40 people attended the event.
