Since most of his artistic life has been spent working in theater, Ray favors songs that tell a story, with dramatic elements and interesting characters.
The first song he learned to play on guitar was Kris Kristopherson’s version of Me and Bobby McGee, while camping in his 1976 VW van among logging slashings North of Virginia, Minnesota.
Now his repertoire includes the works of songwriters such as Hoyt Axton and Townes Van Zandt.
Torgerson’s musical style includes contemporary pop, acoustic rock and his favorite genre, country music.
The variety of selections on his song list spans from the 1960s to today. He is an accomplished guitar player, a smooth singer and has a great stage presence.
