Ruby Jeanette Carlson, age 93, Alexandria, returned to her Heavenly Father on February 9, 2010 after a brief stay at Douglas County Hospital.
Ruby was born September 10, 1916 in Urness Township, the fourth and youngest child of Steen and Gertrude (Backlund) Stevenson. She spent her last growing up years living with her sister, Evelyn and her husband, Olander Olson, in Alexandria, since both her parents were deceased. One of her first employments was in food service at a school in Morris. It was there that she was introduced to Alvin Carlson by his sister, Margie, who also worked at the school.
She married Alvin LeRoy Carlson on October 26, 1947 at Wennersborg Church between Hoffman and Kensington. They farmed near Kensington until 1957. She later found employment as a nurse’s aide at the same Bethany Home that later became her final residence. Alvin worked the same schedule there as a custodian. Ruby’s interests included reading, sewing, cooking and caring for her family. She and Alvin were members of Evangelical Covenant Church of Alexandria.
Ruby is survived by her son, Robert of Lincoln, NE; five grandchildren, Torrey (MaryAnn) Wagner of Beavercreek, OH, Bryce, Bryan, Josiah and Karissa Wagner, all of Crookston; and two great-grandchildren, Sophia and Gavin Wagner of Beavercreek, OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin; daughter, Linda Diane Wagner; infant daughter, Janice Arlene; sister, Evelyn (Olander) Olson; and brothers, Clarence and Joseph.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, February 13 from Bethany Home Chapel in Alexandria with the Rev. John LeVahn officiating. Betty Bjurlin, LaVerne Olson and Darlene Steiger provided music.
Interment will be at Barrett Covenant Cemetery in Barrett.
