Runestone Electric Association’s Operation Round Up has distributed more than $420,500 in grants to community-minded groups and organizations throughout the cooperative’s service territory since its inception seven years ago.
More than 66 percent of REA members allow their bills to be rounded up an average of 51 cents per month, amounting to $6.39 per participating member for the year.
The following 21 area organizations shared $11,400 in grants from Operation Round Up:
•Fire Departments/ First Responders: Villard Fire Department ($500); Garfield First Responders ($1,000); Brandon Volunteer Fire Department ($500) and Millerville Fire Department ($500).
•Youth: Osakis After Prom Party ($200); Evansville Post Prom ($200); Brandon Post Prom ($200) and Greater MN Children’s Choir ($200).
•Community: Pioneer Public Television ($250); Central MN Foster Grandparent Program/Catholic Charities ($250); Salvation Army Douglas County ($1,000); Osakis Area Heritage Center ($350); Jingle Bells Foundation ($1,000); Alexandria Area Uncompensated Care Plan ($1,000); Friendship Ventures ($500); Douglas County Historical Society ($500); Wings Family Supportive Services ($500); Community Memorial Home, DBA Galeon ($500); Brandon History Center ($500); Salvation Army-Douglas County Services Extension ($1,000) and Radiothon to End Child Abuse ($1,000).
•Senior: Knute Nelson ($500); Hoffman Senior Citizen’s Club, Inc. ($500); Alexandria Senior Center ($500) and Bethany Community ($500).
Participation in Operation Round Up is strictly voluntary. Members that wish to participate, do nothing. Your contribution will be included on your future bills. If members want to opt-out of the program, they merely need to call REA to be removed from the rounding up of their electric bills.
