Letter - A message from the Alexandria police chief

On behalf of the Alexandria Police Department, I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation for the community’s respect and honor you have presented to Jeff, Deb and Lisa Callaghan, their families, friends and life-long acquaintances.

To the editor:

On behalf of the Alexandria Police Department, I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation for the community’s respect and honor you have presented to Jeff, Deb and Lisa Callaghan, their families, friends and life-long acquaintances.

We lay to rest a great police officer, dedicated community servant and a wonderful individual. Although this is perhaps one of the hardest weeks of my life, I am so privileged to have had this young man on our team at the Alexandria Police Department. I am honored to speak of him and represent his commitment to you.

The Callaghan family, the Alexandria Police Department and the community have suffered a great loss. The dedication and commitment that Patrick displayed to his profession, community, family and friends was unwavering.

The public comments I have received in regards to his impeccable professionalism and care for this community should make all of us proud to call him “one of our own.”

I would like to thank all of the law enforcement agencies, fire, ambulance, neighboring departments, the Alexandria Technical College and every individual who came to honor Patrick, support his family and support the Alexandria Police Department.

A memorial will be displayed in his honor within the Alexandria Police Department’s front lobby for everyone to see. We will miss him and love him, and Patrick Callaghan will never be forgotten by this community and the Alexandria Police Department.

Rick Wyffels, chief of police

Alexandria, MN
