DULUTH — A 61-year-old man died from injuries suffered in a snowmobile accident Sunday afternoon.
The Itasca County Sheriff’s Department identified the victim as John Gale Burns of Lakeville.
According to Itasca County Sheriff Pat Medure, the accident was reported at 12:09 p.m. and took place on the north end of the City of Squaw Lake off of State Highway 46, approximately 4½ miles east of the state highway on a snowmobile trail. Burns was heading north on the trail when the snowmobile he was driving left the trail and hit a tree. He died at the scene.
The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Squaw Lake Fire Department, Squaw Lake First Responders and the Deer River Ambulance Service.
