Governor taps Alexandria for state peace officer board
Governor Tim Pawlenty has reappointed Jon M. Magnuson of Alexandria to the Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).
Governor Tim Pawlenty has reappointed Jon M. Magnuson of Alexandria to the Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). Magnuson is a peace officer education instructor with the Law Enforcement Program at Alexandria Technical College, a position he has held since 2000.
Previously, he was a full-time law enforcement instructor at the Law Enforcement Training Center at Normandale Community College in Bloomington after 10 years as a police officer with the White Bear Lake Police Department.
Magnuson earned his associate of science degree in law enforcement from Lakewood Community College in White Bear Lake, and holds a vocational education teaching license.
Magnuson is a past vice president of the Fraternal Order of Police Minnesota Lodge 10, and an advisor for the Alexandria Technical College Law Enforcement Club.
Magnuson, who was a member of the POST Board from 1996 to 2004, was appointed to the board again in November 2008 as a representative of former peace officers currently employed in a peace officer education program, and is currently vice chair of the board.
The Board of POST establishes minimum qualifications and standards of conduct and regulates professional peace officer education and continuing education programs.
The board consists of 15 members, including 14 appointed by the governor.
Pawlenty also re-appointed Brainerd Police Chief John A. Bolduc to the board.
