JHS Math Team third place in division
The Jefferson High School Math Team participated in its fourth meet of the season last week in Fergus Falls.

Team members taking part in the meet were Jordan Arel, Jared Bents, Peter Brackin, Jen DeCock, Ben LeVahn, Katie Lovrien, Austin McCoy, Kelli Montbriand, Eric Nelson, Jill Rook, Emma Sieling, Will Sieling, Leah Stinson and John Turner.
The team competed with Breckenridge, Fergus Falls and Moorhead, taking 2nd place with a score of 28. The team is currently in 1st place for the season in the south half of its division. Between all schools in its division, JHS is in 3rd place behind Bemidji and Thief River Falls.
Top JHS individual scorers for last week’s meet were Leah Stinson with seven points and Will Sieling with five points. Stinson leads the team in overall points with 29. She is followed by Joe Wymore with 26, Jen DeCock (24), John Turner (23) and Katie Lovrien (20).
Team scores are calculated by combining the scores of eight pre-selected individuals on individual exams and points earned during a team exam. During the individual rounds, students have 12 minutes to complete four rigorous math problems, which cover different topics in algebra, geometry, advanced algebra, trigonometry, pre-calculus and calculus.
The team’s final meet is Monday, February 8 in Alexandria.
