Gearman, Whiting nominated for AAA honors
Kate Gearman and Mark Whiting, students at Jefferson High School in Alexandria, were nominated to represent their school in the Academics, Arts and Athletics (AAA) program in Section 8AA competition.
Kate Gearman and Mark Whiting, students at Jefferson High School in Alexandria, were nominated to represent their school in the Academics, Arts and Athletics (AAA) program in Section 8AA competition. AAA winners are students who participate in Minnesota State High School League athletic programs, fine arts activities and carry a 3.0 or higher grade point average.
Gearman is the daughter of Jeff and Nette Gearman and Deb Gearman. She is involved in soccer, basketball and softball in the athletic arena and was named captain of the soccer and basketball team and received all conference honors in softball. Her fine arts involvement includes band and choir. She is an A honor roll student, a Spotlight on Scholarship athlete, a Central Lakes Conference Scholar athlete, a member of the student council and a member of the National Honor Society.
Whiting is the son of Doug and Julie Whiting. He is an A honor roll student, a Spotlight on Scholarship athlete, a Central Lakes Conference Scholar athlete and a member of the National Honor Society. He is involved in football, basketball and baseball and was selected captain of the football team this fall. He also received Central Lakes Conference All Conference honors in football this fall. His fine arts involvement includes band and choir.
Gearman and Whiting will advance to the section competition and will be honored at the Section AAA recognition banquet at Cragun’s Resort on Sunday, March 7. Section winners will advance to state competition.
State Triple A Award recipients are selected by a multi-level process involving the league’s member schools and administrative regions. League officials will announce the four award recipients (a girl and a boy from both a Class A and Class AA school) at an on-court recognition ceremony held on Saturday, March 27. Each award recipient will receive a four-year $1,000 scholarship.
