Through District 206 Community Education, the Alexandria Area Adult Basic Education (ABE) Consortium is partnering with Rural MN CEP and Alexandria Technical College (ATC) to offer a free pre-healthcare nursing course at ATC this winter.
Since this nine-week course is being offered at no cost to the first 20 qualified applicants, early registration is recommended. The registration deadline is February 12.
The pre-healthcare nursing course will be held at ATC on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning February 22 and ending April 28. The course will be held from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Financial assistance for transportation and/or childcare expenses incurred to attend these classes will be available for the course participants through Rural MN CEP.
The pre-healthcare nursing curriculum jointly developed by ATC and ABE for this course is meant to be a “bridge” between certified nursing assistant (CNA) and licensed practical nursing (LPN) training. The pre-healthcare nursing course will help students develop the skills and knowledge essential to succeed in the collegiate academic setting. The curriculum includes medical terminology, basic nursing skills, job shadowing, reading, writing and math for healthcare occupations, as well as information on college nursing programs and healthcare career options.
This is an ideal class for someone planning to further their education in nursing or another healthcare field, according to ABE leaders. Since the program builds the academic, technical and soft skills of the participants, those who complete the class will not only be better prepared to take college coursework, they will also be better equipped healthcare employees.
To register for this course or to get more information, contact Sandy Schroepfer, Alexandria ABE coordinator, at (320) 762-0627 or sschroep@alexandria.
