JHS students selected to honor band

Nick Hansberry, Spencer Brand and Alex Blaser were selected to the University of Minnesota High School Honor Band.

The following students from Jefferson High School in Alexandria have been accepted to the University of Minnesota’s (U of M) High School Honor Band festival: Alex Blaser, oboe; Spencer Brand, trumpet; and Nicholas Hansberry, tuba.

To be accepted into the honor band, the students submitted a recording of five minutes of contrasting solo literature and a written application. Each recording was evaluated by members of the University of Minnesota School of Music.

The festival will be held January 29 to 31, culminating in a concert on Sunday, January 31 at 1:30 p.m. at the Ted Mann Concert Hall at the U of M Twin Cities campus.

The students will have the opportunity to be involved with master classes led by professional musicians from the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra and the University of Minnesota School of Music.
