Firefighters respond to house fire on Maple Drive

At the same time when fire departments from Carlos and Miltona were battling a blaze in Belle River, Alexandria firefighters were called to the scene of a house fire Tuesday afternoon.

At the same time when fire departments from Carlos and Miltona were battling a blaze in Belle River (see related story), Alexandria firefighters were called to the scene of a house fire Tuesday afternoon.

The Law Enforcement Center received a 911 call at 1:17 p.m. about a fire at the Tom Muzik residence at 4505 Maple Drive SE, Alexandria.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Alexandria Fire Department and North Ambulance responded to the scene. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the interior of the home.

Ambulance personnel stood by on scene because of the bitterly cold weather conditions. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire appears to be associated with a bathroom ceiling light/fan fixture, according to the sheriff’s office.
