Letter - Voters: It's time to get educated

To the editor:
Every day that I read or listen to the news, I feel how important it is that we start to educate ourselves and find out who we are really voting for in the next election. Republicans and Democrats alike have been duped by a lot of representatives who pretend to be one thing but fall short of their promises. I don’t have a problem with someone who claims to be a liberal or a conservative because that is a freedom we still have by being an American.
If you’re satisfied with the way the country is going, then you back someone who will continue on that path, but if not, then maybe you should find out who will try to make a difference. Many reports are leaning to the fact that the Republicans are going to take a lot of seats in the next election, but I don’t believe just being a Republican is going to be the answer anymore unless you are a Conservative Republican.
We have too many people voting who don’t have a clue who they are voting for. We must educate ourselves and not just let the media dictate who they think should be in power. Now is the time to start supporting the person or persons who most represent your values. Follow up by attending your local grassroots meetings so you really have an input as to the persons who will represent you. Don’t wait until the final election, because too often that is too late.
We can no longer let money buy our elected officials. This is something Republicans and Democrats alike have to work to accomplish. I believe the two-party system is still the right system so that there are checks and balances, but we have to start working together. We are always going to have issues that we aren’t going to agree on, but let’s not let money dictate the outcome.
