Math team takes 1st at third meet

The Jefferson High School (JHS) math league team participated in its third meet of the season on December 14.

The Jefferson High School (JHS) math league team participated in its third meet of the season on December 14.

The team traveled to Fergus Falls and competed with Breckenridge, Fergus Falls and Moorhead. The team came in 1st in the south half of its division with a score of 49, followed by Breckenridge (41), Moorhead (33) and Fergus Falls (32).

JHS is currently in 1st place in the south half of the division for the season. Between all schools in the division, JHS is currently in 3rd place behind Bemidji and Thief River Falls.

JHS team members competing in this meet included Jared Bents, Peter Brackin, Jen DeCock, Kyle Fulghum, Drake Johnson, Ben LeVahn, Katie Lovrien, Austin McCoy, Eric Nelson, Ben Roers, Caroline Roers, Colin Ryan, Will Sieling, Leah Stinson, John Turner, Joe Wymore and Paul Yager.

Top individual scorers were Peter Brackin with 10 points and Will Sieling with nine points.

Joe Wymore continues to lead the team in overall points with 26, followed by Leah Stinson (22), Jen DeCock (22), John Turner (21) and Katie Lovrien (20).

Team scores are calculated by combining the scores of eight pre-selected individuals on individual exams and points earned during a team exam.

The problems cover different topics in algebra, geometry, advanced algebra, trigonometry, pre-calculus and calculus.

The team’s next meet is January 11 in Fergus Falls.
