Raymond “Kent” Johnson, age 69, of Aurora, Illinois, formerly of Batavia, Illinois, passed away December 8, 2009 at Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva, Illinois.
Raymond “Kent” Johnson, age 69, of Aurora, Illinois, formerly of Batavia, Illinois, passed away December 8, 2009 at Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva, Illinois.
He was born August 31, 1940 in Geneva, the son of Glenn G. and Evelyn (nee Freselle) Johnson. He was united in marriage to Evelyn DeMik on September 1, 1962 in Lansing, Illinois.
Kent was owner and operator of Johnson Concrete Company in DeKalb; a company which his father began in the 1940s. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, and enjoyed spending time with the Monday Night Football Group and his friends at the 9:30 p.m. coffee club, which met at McDonald’s in Batavia. Kent was a lifetime member of the Batavia Covenant Church and sang in the church choir for more than 50 years.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Evelyn Johnson of Aurora; his two daughters, Julie Johnson of North Aurora and Jennifer Johnson-Healy of Sugar Grove; one dearly loved granddaughter, Samantha Healy; a brother, Thomas (Jan) Johnson of Alexandria, MN; his nieces and nephew and their families. He also leaves behind many dear friends who he considered extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew and dear friends.
A memorial service was held Saturday, December 12 at 11 a.m. at Batavia Covenant Church, 1314 Main Street, in Batavia, with the Rev. Christopher Ek officiating. Interment will be private.
