A snowmobile driver suffered serious injuries in an accident in Carlos Township north of Alexandria Wednesday – the first day of significant snowfall this winter.

Brian Lewis Tritz, 19, of Graceville was driving north on Interlachen Drive on a 2002 Polaris 700 XCSP snowmobile at about 5:30 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Tritz struck several trees and injured his left arm and shoulder. Neighbors provided medical attention until law enforcement, first responders and North Ambulance arrived.

Tritz was wearing a helmet. Authorities said that speed appeared to be a factor in the crash.

Tritz was transported to the Douglas County Hospital and later transferred to North Memorial Hospital in the Twin Cities. As of Thursday morning, he was listed in serious condition.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Carlos First Responders and North Ambulance.
