A “Demolition Day Ceremony” took place Wednesday to mark the beginning of an extreme makeover for Colorful Seasons Garden Center in Alexandria. The building on Dakota Street is being torn down to make room for a new 8,100-square-foot facility. ORB Management in Alexandria is doing the project. Instead of the traditional groundbreaking shovels, sledge hammers were used to hit a target date to commemorate the event. Owners Bob and Lynelle Brickweg and their son, Bryce, were the first of six “demolition crews” to swing their hammers. The new Colorful Seasons is expected to open in April 2010.
