Joan, the oldest of twin girls, was born October 24, 1944 to Roy and Jane (Feigum) Hagstrom in Glenwood. She was baptized at Glenwood Lutheran Church on December 7, 1944 and was confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria on August 30, 1959.

Joan attended Jefferson High School in Alexandria. She was united in marriage to Bruce Byron Brundell on August 18, 1961 and lived in Alexandria for the rest of her life. She was blessed with three children, Brian, Jon and Gary and eight grandchildren, who were the joys of her life.

Joan enjoyed the outdoors, golfing, fishing, camping and snowmobiling. She liked bowling, sewing, doing crafts and taking care of her grandchildren. She loved talking with her sisters and brother and spending time with her family. Joan also enjoyed her work and especially the people at Tastefully Simple, where she was employed for the past eight years.

Joan was diagnosed with polio at the age of 4. She was also a cancer survivor, yet was still able to enjoy life after two major surgeries and losing sight in one eye. Joan traveled to California and Oregon to spend time with family. She made a trip to Tennessee to see Graceland with her sister and cousin to visit her idol, Elvis Presley. She also celebrated her 50th birthday with her family in Cancun. This past August, Joan was able to attend the Hagstrom family reunion at Kensington Park. This reunion was very special to Joan, being able to visit with many of her family whom she had not seen for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce Brundell of Alexandria; sons, Brian Brundell of Alexandria, Jon Brundell of St. Cloud, Gary (Penny) Brundell of Alexandria; eight grandchildren, Brianna, Jennifer, Jordan, Chelsey, Mariah, Cody, Nick and Devin; sisters, Marlene (Ron) Chalman of California, Jackie (John) Kimball of Oregon; brother, Roger (Dot) Hagstrom of Coon Rapids; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jane and Roy Hagstrom.

A funeral service was held Monday, November 30 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria with the Rev. Sherry Billberg officiating. Margaret Kalina was organist and Ardis Danielson was soloist. Interment was at St. Petri Lutheran Cemetery near Brandon. Casket bearers were Brian Brundell, Jon Brundell, Gary Brundell, Roger Hagstrom, John Kimball and Ron Chalman. Honorary casket bearers were her eight wonderful grandchildren and also all of Joan’s friends at Tastefully Simple.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Gillette Children’s Hospital.
