Suckstorff underwent surgery in July 2009 to repair scar tissue and a hole in her esophagus. It was found that she had numerous holes in her throat and a large portion of her esophagus was removed, leaving her stomach now sitting behind her heart.
She is on feeding and drainage tubes, recovering at home. Doctors are unsure of when she will be able to return to work. The extended recovery has put a financial strain on her family, including husband, Ron, and children, Danny and Lisa.
