Alexandria firefighters responded to a Rainbow Rider bus that was on fire near the intersection of Spruce Street and 5th Avenue Monday shortly before 4 p.m. According to Rainbow Rider Director Harold Jennissen, the driver was helping a rider off the bus when someone else noticed smoke coming from beneath the vehicle. The driver remained calm, called authorities and made sure both riders got off the bus and were safe. “She did exactly what she was supposed to do,” he said. As of Tuesday morning, the cause of the fire had not yet been determined, noted Jennissen.
