A new club has formed at Jefferson High School in Alexandria – a local chapter of Amnesty International, a worldwide group dedicated to promoting human rights. The group calls attention to human rights abuses through letter writing, petitions and publicity campaigns. Each month, the group focuses on one issue. The focus for November is the abuse occurring in Sri Lanka. The group, which was started by seniors Marit Aaseng and Amanda Peck, began meeting the end of October. Scott Fodness is the advisor.
