Mary was born July 12, 1926 in Indianapolis, Indiana to James and Mae Brown Wheeler. She grew up in Indianapolis and attended Albert Walsman #3 Elementary School and graduated from Warren Central High School in 1944.
Mary was united in marriage to Richard Clauson on July 2, 1948 in Indianapolis. After their marriage they lived in Indianapolis before moving to Hadley, MN. She worked in an office for the U.S. government and later worked from her home as a Home Interiors representative. After they retired, Richard and Mary moved to Alexandria.
She was a member of Hadley Lutheran Church. She also belonged to Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary and was a hospice volunteer. Mary enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafting and playing cards. She loved spending time with and watching her grandchildren. She was an avid baker, loved shopping for bargains and taking care of others. She loved her lake home in Park Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Clauson; three children and their spouses, Allan (Pamela) Clauson of Slayton, Valerie (Al) Fincher of Sioux Falls, SD and Barbara Klepper of Alexandria; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Helen Martindale; and two brothers, William and James Curtis.
Funeral services were held at Hadley Lutheran Church on Monday, November 9 with the Rev. Kerry Boese officiating. The organist was Dianne Johnson and the flutist was Juli Baecker. The pallbearers were Jason Gordon, Nick Hanson, Mike Clauson, Cole Bredlow, Derrick Fincher and Russell Bonnstetter. Interment was at Highland Home Cemetery in Hadley.
