Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota will be celebrating new and expanded offices in Alexandria with an open house this Friday, November 6 from 2 to 5 p.m.

The community is invited to tour the new offices, learn about the services offered and meet local counseling and program staff as well as officials from the Lutheran Social Service State Center home office in St. Paul.

“We’re very excited about our growth and want to invite pastors, teachers, county social workers, business leaders, church members and residents of the community to learn more about how we can serve them,” said Jody Shaskey-Setright, clinical/operations director for Lutheran Social Service.

With more than 40 years of service in Alexandria to residents in west central Minnesota, Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota offers a wide variety of services, including professional mental health counseling, in-home family based services and education and support to families with wellness education with help from 12 employees – licensed mental health professionals and practitioners, educational instructors and administrative staff.

Services include assessment and referral, psychological testing and individual, family and couple counseling. In addition, domestic abuse group counseling has been offered for more than 20 years.

One specialized educational offering is called “The Incredible Years Parenting Program,” a 12-week program that focuses on child nurturing and attachment, parenting skills, child development, parental resilience and social connections.

Additional in-home support and coaching help parents practice the skills they learned in class. Lutheran Social Service also offers educational classes for chemical health and anger management for teens and adults.

Through a new partnership with the Minnesota Department of Veteran Affairs, Lutheran Social Service is also serving military members and their families at no cost. Free, confidential and professional support is available for mental health counseling, financial problems, respite care, re-adjustment back into the family, and anger and stress management.

For businesses and organizations, Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota serves as an employee assistance provider, offering mental health counseling, organizational development and education.

Statewide, Lutheran Social Service also can provide adoption services, pregnancy counseling, guardianship and conservatorship care for vulnerable adults, and budgeting and personal debt management services.

Offices of Lutheran Social Service in Alexandria are located at 507 22nd Avenue East. Refreshments at the open house will be served. For more information, call Lutheran Social Service at (320) 762-5124.
