The Long Prairie Police Department, along with the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Minnesota Department of Corrections, hosted a Level 3 predatory offender notification meeting last Thursday.

The reason for the meeting, which took place at the Long Prairie/Grey Eagle High School, was to notify the public of a Level 3 or high-risk sex offender recently released from a Minnesota correctional facility.

Christopher Nicholas Sonsalla is now living in Long Prairie in the 100 block of 3rd Street South, according to a press release from the Long Prairie Police Department.

Sonsalla is a Level 3 sex offender, which is considered the highest risk of re-offending. He is 27 years old, about 5-feet, 9-inches tall, has hazel eyes, brown hair and weighs about 228 pounds.

Sonsalla has a history of sexual contact – including fondling and penetration – with juvenile females (ages 14-16). He was known to his victims, according to the Minnesota Department of Corrections.

The offender has served the sentence imposed on him by the court; he is not wanted by the police.

Although he is a level 3 sex offender, Sonsalla still has rights, according to authorities. He can be employed, continue his education and go anywhere he wants, for example.

One important item to note, according to authorities, is that anyone caught harassing Sonsalla can be arrested. It is illegal to harass him or any other sex offender.

Authorities stressed that community notification and information is important, limiting the opportunity for offenders that secrecy provides.

A fact sheet about Sonsalla is located at the Long Prairie Police Department.
