JV girls’ tennis
The Rocori JV girls’ tennis team edged Alexandria 4-3 as the Cardinals won at first singles, second doubles and third doubles.
Rachel Minnerath won 8-6 in the first singles slot, while in doubles action, Jessica Larson and Becca Illies won 8-3 at second doubles. Robin Hoepper and Jenna Hedstrom won at fourth doubles 8-3.
At first doubles, Jennifer DeCock and Jenna Larson fell 8-6, while Brittany Barrett and Sabrina Dedic fell 8-3 at third doubles. At fifth doubles, Julia Lambert and Tracy Goeden fell 9-7 and at sixth doubles, Ashley Kerns and Lisa Lee fell 8-1.
JV1 girls’ soccer
JV1 girls’ soccer team got a bit of revenge for an earlier defeat, stopping St. Cloud Apollo 1-0.
The only goal of the night came as Ashley Vanderveur sent a kick right toward the middle of the goal box. The ball was knocked down, but Kandi McCullough quickly popped it into the net.
JV2 girls’ soccer
The undefeated Apollo Eagles JV2 squad won a well-played game by a 5-0 score.
JV1 volleyball
The JV1 girls’ volleyball team came home from Rocori with a 2-1 loss.
Alexandria won set one 25-20, but fell 22-25 in the second set and 9-15 in the tiebreaker.
Laurel Thompson did a nice job at the net, putting down 11 kills. Brianna Johnson was right behind her with 10.
Thompson did a nice job setting with nine set assists and Quinn Kragenbring had eight.
Defensively, Shanee Herd was the dig leader with 22 digs.
Sam Brown did a great job defensively, putting up 18 digs for the night.
Kragenbring finished with 17 serves, six aces and 12 points.
The Cards are now 7-2 in conference and 10-5 overall.
9th grade volleyball
The Alexandria 9th grade A and B teams both defeated Rocori 2-1, with the A winning 25-18, 18-25, 15-13, and the B team winning 25-12, 25-8, 7-15.
Danielle Strater was strong in passing with 15 ace passes for the night. Jenni Wild had 12 digs. Leading at the net was Adrianne Wensman with five kills and Allie Noetzelman and Saige Glaser with four.
Assisting the team with great sets were Nicole Canavati with six ace assists, Noetzelman with four and Hailey Haugen with three.
Noetzelman and Jessica Burns led the team with five ace serves. Canavati, Wensman and Heidi Bush all had three.
JV football
Brainerd 30 Alexandria 8
The JV Cardinal football team traveled to Brainerd, falling 30-8.
The Cardinal offense struggled throughout the game, not scoring until the last two minutes of the game.
The defense experienced some of the same difficulties; giving up three more touchdowns.
9th grade football
Brainerd 40 Alexandria 12
The Alex 9th grade football team lost to Brainerd 40-12, as the team battled illness and injuries during the week.
The team moved the ball very well through all four quarters but struggled to put the ball in the end zone until late in the second half.
Both scores for the Cardinals were on runs by Anthony Hubbard, one for 60 yards and the other for 40 yards.
JV boys’ soccer
The boys’ JV team beat Apollo at home 3-2.
Scoring for the Cards were Nick Knoblach with two goals and Chase Porter with one.
Porter and Jack Wensman each had an assist.
Tanner Gustafson had a pair of assists. Austin McCullouch had the win as keeper.
JV swimming
and diving
The Alexandria girls’ JV swimming and diving team beat St. Cloud Tech 84-66.
The Cards won six times in 10 events.
Individual winners were Ellen Johnson (200 free-2:26.78), Ellen Lanman (200 IM-2:44.68), Beth Burnham (100 free-1:03.68), Ann Robertson (100 back-1:20.41), and Ashley Rabehl (100 breaststroke-1:25.58).
The Cards posted eight season bests, spotlighted by Johnson’s five-second drop in the 200 free, Robertson’s two-second drop in the back, and Maddy Gorghuber’s 12-second drop in the 200 IM.
