JV1 girls' soccer
The JV1 girls' soccer team met the Tigers from Tech for the second time Monday night and came away with a well-earned 2-0 victory.
Kine Berntson celebrated her 17th birthday by sending Brook Aaberg in on goal with a through ball midway into the second half. Aaberg buried her shot from 12 yards out for a 1-0 lead.
About 10 minutes later, Kine outhustled the Tech keeper to a loose ball and worked it into the back of the goal for the final score.
Katrin Albert and Mikayla Lucas combined in goal for the shutout.
JV2 girls' soccer
The Cards suffered a tough 3-1 loss at the hands of the Tech Tigers on Monday.
Scoring the lone goal was Brenna Skinner on a direct kick to the upper corner.
JV girls' tennis
The Alexandria JV tennis team defeated Little Falls 6-0, playing just three singles matches.
At first singles, Kristen Sjostrand won 8-1, at second singles, Rachel Minnerath won 8-6 and at third singles Kelli Montbriand won 8-3.
At first doubles, Anna Brase and Jennifer Kline won 8-4, Elli Thill and Miranda Sater won 8-1 at second doubles and at third doubles, Robin Hoepeper and Jenna Hedtstrom won 8-1.
The JV team is now 3-3 in the CLC
JV1 girls' soccer
The Alexandria JV1 girls' soccer team tied Brainerd 1-1.
Becca Flynn slid a ball to Mikayla Lucas, who beat the Brainerd keeper up high from 25 yards out for the first goal of the game.
That goal would stand until the 76th minute when Brainerd took advantage of a mistake in the Cardinal end to net the equalizer and earn a 1-1 draw.
JV1 boys' soccer
The boy's JV soccer team eclipsed the .500 mark for the first time this season after beating Brainerd on their own turf 4-0.
Scoring goals for the Cards were Nick Heseltine, Dylan Sundberg, Phil Pham and Zac Bowman.
Assists went to Aaron Billberg, Nick Knoblach and Bowman.
Austin McCullough was perfect in net.
JV1 volleyball
The JV1 girls' volleyball team traveled to St. Cloud Tuesday night to play the St. Cloud Tech Tigers, winning 3-0.
With a new line-up in order, the Cards won the match with game scores of 25-16, 25-20, and 15-10.
Brianna Johnson was the big hitter for the night, producing 12 kills.
Sam Brown worked the outside, helping the team with eight kills.
Quinn Kragenbring had a nice night setting with 13 set assists and Laurel Thompson had eight.
Defensively for the Cards, Shanee Herd once again was really working hard, putting up 17 digs.
Danielle Warren had 11 digs.
Laurel Thompson was a big server with 5 ace serves and 13 points.
This brings their record to 6-0 in the conference and 9-3 overall.
9th grade volleyball
The 9th grade volleyball team once again dominated from the serving line as the A team won 25-7, 25-12, 15-9 and the B team won 25-10, 25-14, 15-5.
The Cards managed to ace 56 serves in six games.
Leading the ace serving stats were Allie Noetzelman with 19, Danielle Carlson with 11 and Erin Ann Schueler with 10.
The team was able to get some hitting in despite the control of the game from the serving line. Noetzelman had seven kills, Danielle Strater four, Heidi Bush four and Saige Glaser four.
Assisting the hitters were Nicole Canavati with nine ace set assists and Noetzelman with 10 ace set assists.
JV1 girls' soccer
The JV girls' soccer team went up against an undefeated squad from Sartell, falling 5-1.
The Cards spotted Sartell two early goals but got a goal back off a nice run by Kandi McCullough up the right side.
She beat her defender and took the ball deep toward the Sartell net. After drawing the rest of the defense to her, she slid the ball across the front to Kine Berntson who one timed it into the net.
Sartell scored off a beautiful 30-yard direct kick then scored two more goals in the last five minutes for a 5-1 final score.
JV2 girls' soccer
Sartell 3 Alexandria 1
The JV 2 squad saw their record dip to 4-5 with a loss to Sartell 3-1.
Courtney Wosepka turned in a great goal-keeping performance to keep the game close.
Scoring for the Cards was Brenna Skinner on her second penalty kick in as many games.
JV girls' tennis
Willmar defeated Alexandria 4-3 in junior varsity tennis.
Kristen Sjostrand, playing at first singles, won 8-5, with Rachel Minnerath winning 5-1, 7-6 (1) at second singles and Kelli Montbriand and Brittany Barrett winning at third doubles 7-6 (3), 4-6, 7-3.
Becca Illies fell 6-2, 6-3 at third singles, Jenna Larson fell 6-4, 6-2 at fourth singles, Elli Thill and Jenna Hedstrom fell 6-1, 6-3 at first doubles and Robin Hoeper and Miranda Sater fell 10-8 at second doubles.
The JV girls are now 2-3 in the CLC.
9th grade football
_The 9th grade football team battled the Bemidji Lumberjacks at Citizens Field, falling 36-14.
Card touchdowns were scored by Anthony Hubbard with a pair of runs of 60 yards or more, and a two-point conversion scored by Eric Moe.
10th grade football
Bemidji defeated Alexandria 19-14 in a battle of two undefeated teams.
Brock Wood and Cody Brandt each had one touchdown, faking a point after attemp to convert a pass from Tanner Rice to A.J. Anderson.
JV swimming and diving
The Alexandria girls' JV swimming and diving team was victorious against Willmar 103-57.
The Cards won seven of 12 events.
Individual winners were Rachel Peterson (200 free), Kalli Bowser (200 IM), Ellen Lanman (100 fly), Rachel Evink (500 free), and Allison Wood (100 breast).
Alex also posted 16 season bests, two each from Kelsey Halbur, Alycia Crowe and Sam Carver. Improvement leaders were Bowser, Hadley Klepper, Molly Simonson and Kathrynn Johnson.
JV1 volleyball
The JV1 girls' volleyball team played at home Thursday night against the Little Falls Flyers, winning 2-1.
The girls came out strong and were able to win the first two games and capture the win right away. The score for the first and second game were both 25-13.
The team then played a third game to get some playing time, making a few changes to the line-up and losing 15-13.
The middle hitters played a big role at the net for Alexandria, with Brianna Johnson hitting 12 kills.
Outside hitter Missy Schroeder did well with six kills.
Quinn Kragenbring had 12 set assists and Laurel Thompson had 10 for the night.
Shanee Herd had 18 digs Sam Brown had 10.
Laurel Thompson served 100 percent with two aces and eight points. Brown also had two aces and eight points.
The Cards are now 5-0 in conference and 8-3 overall.
9th grade volleyball
The Alexandria A 9th grade girls continue their streak of steady performance on the court with a 25-12, 25-9, 15-8 win over Little Falls.
Serving five aces for the Cards was Hailey Haugen. Jazmin Roste contributed four and teammates Allie Noetzelman and Natalie Watkins each had three.
Roste proved herself in the middle and outside hitting positions with four kills.
Watkins and Saige Glaser each had three kills. Noetzelman had nine set assists and Nicole Canavati had seven. Jenni Wild had eight digs while Watkins had seven and Roste and Saige Glaser each had six.
Alexandria B team fell to little falls 25-10, 13-25, 3-15.
Cross country
The JV boys' and girls' cross country teams both won team titles at the Rocori Invitational Thursday.
The boys team won with a perfect score of 15 points, winning by 74 points, and the girls' team had 35 points, winning by seven.
Individually, Austin McCoy won the boys' race, with Mike Koel second, Jimmy Lovrien third, Elijah Hartsell fourth, Matt Burow fifth, Zach Bartolomeo sixth and Austin Storm seventh.
Runners of the meet were Elijah Hartsell, Austin Storm and Levi Otterness.
The girls' team was led by Kaci McCoy's first place finish. Kristin Egenes was third, Maxine Carlson fifth, Melissa Gromatka 11th, Sari Gaugert 15th and Christine Johnson 17th.
Runners of the Meet were Melissa Gromatka and Christine Johnson.
Football - 10th grade
The Alexandria Cardinal JV team improved to 3-0 Thursday night at home as they pummeled the Apollo Eagles by a score of 34-0.
Steffen Morical and Andrew Strater had two touchdowns each and Cody Brandt had one. Logan Serum kicked two extra points and A.J. Anderson scored a two-point conversion.
Football - 9th grade
The ninth grade football team had a tough game at Apollo, falling 46-16.
The Cards had a 30-yard touchdown pass from James Holmquist to Nathan Huss right before the half.
Also, strides were made in the running game with good running up the middle by the fullbacks, capped off with a 20-yard touchdown run by Anthony Hubbard late in the second half.
Girls' soccer - JV1
The JV1 girls finished on the short end of a 2-1 score with St. Cloud Apollo.
Midway through the second half, Ashley Vandeveur sent in a deep corner kick that Kandi McCullough muscled in to bring the Cards back.
Girls' soccer - JV2
The JV2 girls' soccer team saw their record drop to 2-3 as they dropped a hard-fought game to Apollo by a 4-3 score. Jess Larum had a goal and also assisted twice on goals scored by Jess Syvrud. Jessilyn Fearing and Anna Carlson had great games for the Cards.
Volleyball - JV1
The JV1 girls' volleyball team played at home Thursday against St. Cloud Apollo, winning 2-1.
The entire match was an exciting one with many volleys back and forth.
The Cardinals won the first game 25-19, lost game two 25-27, then won the tiebreaker 15-8.
Volleyball - JV2
The JV2 girls had a 2-1 win over Apollo Thursday night. Losing the first game, the girls came back to win the second and third with Megan Shelden leading the team and finishing both games with her excellent serves.
Volleyball - 9th grade
The Cardinal 9th grade team won 3-0 over St. Cloud Apollo 25-13, 25-15, 15-8.
Heidi Bush had six ace serves, Jessica Burns had five and Jazmin Roste had four.
Burns played well defensively with seven digs.
B team volleyball
Alexandria's B team volleyball squad defeated St. Cloud Apollo 25-13, 25-16, 15-11.
Kendra Engebretson and Kesha Johnson served strong for the team with five aces a piece.
Katie Burkey and JeriAnn Hertig passed well for the team. Hertig had three digs and Burkey had 2.
Girls' JV swimming and diving
The Alexandria girls' JV swimming and diving team easily beat the Rocori 122-32.
The Cards recorded 10 wins, two by Rachel Peterson (200 free-2:24.24, 100 free-1:05.28).
Solo wins came from Kalli Bowser (100 IM), Zoe Weltzin (50 fly), Beth Burnham (500 free), Ellen Lanman (100 back), and Allison Wood (100 breast).
Sam Carver dropped a second in the 100 free, Rachel Evink chopped off 10 seconds in the 500 free, and Alycia Crowe was four seconds better in the 100 breast.
Boys' soccer - JV1
The JV boys' soccer team moved to .500 on the year with a 3-1 victory in St. Cloud. Freshmen Nick Knoblach, Nick Hazeltine and Chase Porter each scored goals. This was the second goal of the season for each.
Trent Peterson assisted one goal and captain Brian Eipperle assisted two. Austin McCullough was the winning keeper for the Cards.
Boys' soccer - JV2
Ben Allen, Aaron Bitzan, Beau Backhaus and Jeff Swedberg scored goals for the Cardinal JV2 boys' soccer game in their 4-2 victory over St. Cloud Apollo.
Matt Pilgrim had five great saves.
Girls' soccer - JV 1
The JV1 girls' soccer team defeated Buffalo 3-1. Buffalo did open the scoring shortly before the end of the first half when they headed in a corner kick, but that was all they would get.
Ten minutes into the second half Tara Peterson collected the ball out of a scrum in front of the Buffalo net and slid a pass over to Kandi McCullough who finished to tie the game at 1-1.
Boys' soccer - JV1
The boy's JV1 team lost to an undefeated Buffalo team by a score of 3-1.
Nick Knoblach scored the lone Alex goal unassisted.
Brett Maloney played a strong game in nets.
Boys' soccer - JV2
JV2 won by a score of 2-0 over Buffalo.
One of the goals was scored by Chandler Davis on a corner kick and the other by Ben Allen, whose birthday was on Saturday as well.
Volleyball - 9th grade
Alexandria A team took first place in the home tournament last weekend with a 9-1 overall game record.
They defeated New London-Spicer 25-15, 25-24, split with Sauk Centre 22-25, 25-20 defeated Brandon-Evansville 25-15, 25-10, West Central 25-11, 25-17 and Sauk Centre 25-16, 25-23.
Serving leaders were Allie Noetzelman with 14 aces, Nicole Canavati with 11, Danielle Strater with eight and Carli Homan seven.
Alexandria B team placed seventh.
