Darleen Bernice Anderson, 85, died September 6, 2009 at her daughter’s home in Athens, Alabama.

Darleen Bernice Anderson, 85, died September 6, 2009 at her daughter’s home in Athens, Alabama.

Darleen was born January 26, 1924 in Swanville to Oscar and Ellen Johnson. She grew up in Minnesota and attended school in Alexandria before moving to St. Petersburg, Alaska, where she graduated from high school and was married to Everend A. Anderson on July 3, 1941.

Darleen and Everend later moved to Minnesota and farmed around Alexandria, Holmes City, Brandon and Osakis. Darleen worked at 3M in Alexandria and retired in 1986. She also drove school bus for District 206 for 11 years. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling extensively and settled in Buckley, Michigan, and later in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Ellen Johnson; brother, A. Linden Johnson; and sister, Genevieve Bringhurst.

Darleen is survived by her beloved sister, DeLaura Peterson, of Buckley, Michigan; her son, Everend D. Anderson of St. Louis, Missouri; and daughters, Elayne (Thomas) Moore of Harvest, Alabama, and Barbara (RobRoy) Spencer of Athens, Alabama; grandchildren, Gwen (Jere) Weidknecht, Stephanie (Cliff) Spruill, Manuel (Marylee) Martucci, Charles and Matthew Spencer, Michael (Sarah) Moore and Amanda (Jeffery) Wiggins. She was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren, Sara, Joshua, Nya, Jeffery, KaTrina, Malea and Thomas.

A private memorial service was held in her honor on Saturday, September 12, 2009.
