NEW YORK MILLS — A New York Mills area woman was killed Saturday when her car collided with a truck hauling potatoes.

The victim was Delilah G. Perala, 36, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The accident occurred at about noon on Highway 106, two miles south of Highway 10, southeast of New York Mills.

The passenger car, driven by Perala, was east bound on County Road 142. According to the Minnesota State Patrol report, the car failed to yield and was broadsided by the potato truck driven by Daryl L. Trites, 61, of Dent.

Perala was ejected from the car, according to the report, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Trites was trapped in the truck, and was extricated by emergency crews, which included State Troopers, Wadena ambulance and New York Mills firefighters. His injuries were described as non-life threatening.

Potatoes were scattered throughout the road, and MnDOT was called to clean up the highway.
