Hazel was born May 7, 1920 in Wildrose, North Dakota, to Adolph and Mina (Botner) Gulson. She was baptized and confirmed at Rainbow Lutheran Church in Wheelock, North Dakota. She grew up on a farm in rural Wildrose.

On December 25, 1941 she was united in marriage to Lyle Bertrum Gulbranson in Farwell. They lived in Alexandria until 1959 when they relocated to Minneapolis. Hazel was a homemaker and childcare worker. Lyle passed awy May 14, 1990.

She was a member of Christ English Lutheran Church in Minneapolis where she was active in the women’s circles. She belonged to the Sons of Norway and the local SolarLog chapter.

Hazel enjoyed camping, gardening, crafts and quilting, but her greatest joy was her research and discovering her family’s genealogy and history.

She is survived by her children, Laurel Gulbranson and wife, Alice, of Minneapolis, Ann and husband, Guy, of Red Oak, Iowa, Quinn Bergman and wife, Carol, of Lino Lakes; grandchildren, Alissa Chartrand (Mark), Adam Bergman (Bianca) and Jordan Matson; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Avery Chartrand; sister, Adeline Christopherson; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Alice; daughter, Marilyn; and grandson, Ryan.

A memorial service for Hazel will be held Saturday, October 10 at 1:30 p.m. at East Moe Lutheran Church in Garfield. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Arrangements are with Washburn-McReavy, Swanson Chapel in Minneapolis.
