Ollie Eckel, 85

Ollie Mae Eckel, 85, a resident at Burns Manor in Hutchinson, formerly of Eagle Bend, died September 18, 2009 at Hutchinson Area Health Center.

Ollie was born November 23, 1923 to Jacob and Minnie Belle Fisher at Reedley, California. Her parents were killed tragically when she was a teenager in Missouri and she returned to California to live with her aunt.

Ollie was united in marriage with Alvin James Eckel in January 1949 in Long Prairie. In addition to working the farm with Alvin, she also worked as a nurse’s aid at St. William’s Health Center in Parkers Prairie. She enjoyed raising birds and caring for all kinds of pets. She loved flowers and listening to country and classical music. She was, above all, a loving and nurturing mother to her children.

Ollie was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin, in 1988; parents, Jacob and Minnie Belle Fisher; son, David and daughter, Sharon.

She is survived by her son, Carl (Carol) Eckel of Colorado Springs, CO and daughter, Rosemary (Steve) Brockopp of Hutchinson. We love and miss you, Mom, and you will be sadly missed.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, September 22 at Domian-Anderson Funeral Home in Bertha. Interment will be at a later date.
