United Way of Douglas and Pope Counties is pleased to present the 12th annual Chili Cook-Off and Silent Auction.

The event will take place today, Tuesday, September 29 at Broadway Ballroom in Alexandria.

Chili judging will begin at 10 a.m. and serving to the public will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets for the all-you-can-eat chili are $5 for adults and $3 for children younger than 12. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the United Way office at 115 3rd Avenue West or at the door on the day of the event.

The theme for this year is World Wide Sports, which should bring out the creativity in both recipes and decorations, organizers hope.

And once again, there will be a silent auction with many valuable prizes and services. Bidding for the auction will begin at 11 a.m. and close at 1:30 p.m.

United Way is working to advance the common good by focusing on education, income and health. These are the building blocks for a good life – a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement and good health.
