Letter - Decision about members is not local

In response to the “Thumbs Up – Thumbs Down” article in the August 28 Echo Press proclaiming that veterans service clubs may be relaxing their rules to include individuals who aren’t qualified to belong, individual veterans service clubs such as the VFW do not decide who is qualified and who isn’t.

To the editor:

In response to the “Thumbs Up – Thumbs Down” article in the August 28 Echo Press proclaiming that veterans service clubs may be relaxing their rules to include individuals who aren’t qualified to belong, individual veterans service clubs such as the VFW do not decide who is qualified and who isn’t. That decision is made at the national headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri.

While no application acceptance system is perfect, the bona fide members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars are America’s warriors who made America “the land of the free and the home of the brave.”

Unsigned articles written for the sole purpose of speculation, innuendoes or assumptions are hurtful, fuel false rumors and are not “for the good of the order.”

God bless our persons in the military and our veterans.
