Sachs, Toms win cross country openers for area teams

A lot of work during the summer months paid off in the first cross country meet of the season for Minnewaska’s Madi Sachs on Monday.

Sachs won the Morris Area Invitational with her time of 15:25.05. That was more than 13 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Maren Greenwaldt of Sauk Centre.

That first-place finish for Sachs was not quite enough to help her squad in the team standings. The Lakers finished last out of nine teams with 152 points. Canby finished first with 75 points.
