Knight girls split tennis matches at New York Mills
West Central Area split its two matches at the New York Mills triangular Saturday, falling to Pequot Lakes 5-2 in the opener, then edging the host Eagles 4-3 in the second match.
“Pequot Lakes was a team we haven’t seen in a while,” said Knight coach Sue Maier, “and they proved to be a tough competitive team with most of our seven matches being very difficult.
“They have an experienced team with lots of depth, hitting solid shots all the way through their lineup. I was impressed with our team and some of the impressive points we played against them.
“This ends a long week of tournament play for us,” she added. “I feel that all of our players have picked up their games tremendously and have increased the mental toughness they need in their games to overcome opponents.”
The Knights are now 3-1 on the season and will be at home against Osakis tomorrow, Thursday, at 10 a.m.
