Letter - Name-calling detracts
As a cabin owner in the Alexandria area for the last 18 years, I have always been pleasantly surprised by the number of letters to the editor that address not only local issues but national issues as well.

As a cabin owner in the Alexandria area for the last 18 years, I have always been pleasantly surprised by the number of letters to the editor that address not only local issues but national issues as well.
However, I wish all contributors would understand that their position is not enhanced by using derogatory remarks for the people they disagree with.
If you have a cogent argument, state the facts and let them speak for themselves. Name-calling, which incidentally is done on a regular basis by one of your columnists, only distracts from your position. It sends the message that facts alone will not support your position, hence you must resort to name-calling. All it does is reduce your argument in the eyes of the reader.
