Bluedogs fall at state

The Brandon-Evansville Bluedogs fell victim to a dominant pitching performance by St. Cloud Orthopedic in a 10-0, seven-inning loss on Sunday in Gaylord.
The Bluedogs scored 18 runs in their previous game coming into the Class C State Tournament but managed just one hit by Nate Meissner in the loss to St. Cloud. Scott Geiger started on the hill and stymied the Brandon-Evansville bats through five innings of work. He struck out six and walked just one.
His offense gave him plenty of runs to work with. St. Cloud’s Corey Hollenhorst opened a three-run inning for his team with an RBI double in the first. That was the first of three, three-run innings for Orthopedic. The others came in the third and fifth, when Hollenhorst once again contributed an RBI double. He finished the day with three hits and four RBIs.
Casey Kowalski took the loss for Brandon-Evansville on the mound. He started but lasted just three innings after allowing seven runs on six hits and five walks. Travis Santjer threw two innings and allowed three runs on four hits and three walks, while striking out four. Mike Bruns then finished out the game for the Bluedogs by tossing two scoreless innings of relief.
David Deminsky and Brian Beunning came on for St. Cloud in the final two innings. Deminsky struck out the side in the sixth before Beunning recorded two strikeouts in the seventh to end the game.
