State Class C amateur baseball opens Sunday

Brandon-Evansville and Carlos will both play this weekend

The Class C State amateur baseball tournament is set with Carlos and Brandon-Evansville hoping to make some noise starting this Sunday.

The Bluedogs will open up play in Gaylord with a 5 p.m. first pitch against St. Cloud Orthopedic. A win and Brandon-Evansville would move on to play on August 29 in Arlington and again on Sunday at 11 a.m. with a win.

Carlos opens up the tournament against Elrosa in Arlington on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. A win and the Cougars would move on to play on August 29 in Gaylord at 1:30 p.m. Another victory would advance them to a 1:30 p.m. game the next day in Arlington.

The Class C champion will be crowned on September 7 in Gaylord with an 11 a.m. game scheduled and a 1:30 p.m. second game if necessary.

Both Carlos and Brandon-Evansville head into the tournament off of region championships. The Cougars will be led by Region 14C MVP Joe Snaza, who has hit .750 over the last four games. He finished the region tournament 12-for-16 with 13 runs scored and nine RBIs. He wrapped up the tournament with a 5-for-5, five run, four RBI game on Sunday against Bertha.

The Bluedogs’ Ryan Hendrickson was almost equally as impressive. He won the Region 16C MVP Award after hitting five home runs in four games. He went 8-for-17 overall with 14 RBIs and seven runs scored. Hendrickson also finished on a high note, going 4-for-6, including two home runs, with six RBIs and three runs scored in Sunday’s win over Midway.

Both the Cougars and the Bluedogs will take those kind of performances starting this Sunday as they look to make a run into September.
