Mildred “Mil” Evenson, 95, a longtime resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday, August 3, 2009, at Knute Nelson Care Center in Alexandria.

Mil was born March 8, 1914 in Jamestown, North Dakota, to Martin and Anna (Spinarski) Albrecht. She was baptized at St. Mary’s in Jamestown, and moved to Minnesota in 1921. She attended school in Tintah and Wendell. In 1925 she moved to Fergus Falls, where she finished her schooling. She worked for the E.V. O’Meara family for 12 years.

On November 8, 1939, she married Lloyd Evenson at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls. She started working at O’Meara’s Department Store in 1942, and was employed as a buyer and clerk there for 42 years until her retirement.

She was an active member at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, participating in ladies aid and circles, and was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed being able to help others.

Mil lived her life as a devoted and caring woman. Her family was her life. She was the “matriarch” of her nieces’ and nephews’ families. Her fun-loving spirit was passed on to many generations. She was loved by her family, kind to all who knew her, and will be greatly missed.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Lloyd; her brothers, Lloyd, Ralph, Clifford and Lester; and her sisters, Louise and Adeline.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, as well as many great-great-nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be held for Mil on Friday, August 28 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls with Father LeRoy Schik officiating. Interment will be at Knollwood Memorial Gardens in Fergus Falls.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on August 28.
