The Alexandria Evening Lions Club recently held an awards banquet, at which Melvin Jones Fellow Awards and Helen Keller Awards were given out. The Melvin Jones Fellow Award is the highest award presented by The Lions Clubs International Foundation. Jones was founder of Lions Clubs International. Honorees included (left to right) Roger Bakewell and Larry Puls. The Helen Keller Award is the highest award presented by the Minnesota Lions Eye Bank and Children’s Eye Clinic at the University of Minnesota. Keller challenged the Lions Clubs International to be Knights for the Blind. Award recipients included (back row) Robert Kensinger, Henry Huhnerkoch and Dennis Miller; (front row) Lornette “Tudor” Ledum and Jerry Hansen.
