Little Beetles: Fourth place at the World Series
The Alexandria 13U AA Beetles baseball team finished fourth in their World Series tournament last weekend in Omaha
They may be nicknamed the “Little” Beetles, but there was nothing small about the accomplishments of this team as the Alexandria 13U AA baseball team finished fourth at the 2009 USSSA World Series in Omaha, Nebraska over the weekend.
The local squad finished with a 6-3 overall record at the tournament, working their way back through the loser’s bracket for that fourth place spot.
They scored 44 runs, while allowing 42 runs against them for a runs average of 4.88 and runs allowed average of 4.66 for an average difference of 0.22.
The most runs scored in a game by the Beetles were 10, both in a 10-3 win over Starpath and a 10-2 win over the Siouxland Stars Black.
The tournament was won by the Lincoln Legends, who went 7-1 over the tournament, while the Mustangs were 6-2 for second place. Starpath was third as they finished 6-3.
Nationwide, the Beetles are ranked 290th out of the 2,160 teams registered in the USSA national report.
They have a total of 550 USSA points, with 250 of those earned last weekend at the World Series. Their power ranking is 1,281 after putting together a 12-3 record against teams of their own class for a win percentage of .800.
The combined records of the teams defeated by the Beetles has been 125-82, and they had an average of 8.07 runs scored to 3.27 runs allowed.
The team includes David Krivanek, Bennett Schuneman, Jordan Frederick, Jordan Karger, Drew Winter, Kaden Anderson, Lane Berberich, Logan Steidl, Chris Leary, Drew Fearing, Mitchell Thompson and Jordan Haas.
They are coached by David Haas, Brian Steidl, Bob Steidl and Gregg Thompson.
