Tuesday night’s game between the Beetles and River Bats was postponed. It will be made up in St. Cloud on August 10, when the two clubs play a pair of seven inning ballgames.
Beetles 3, Green Bay 1
For the first time in the second half, a Beetles starter earned a win as Nick Brown (Iowa) improved to 3-3 with a 3-1 win at Green Bay. The righty went seven innings against the Bullfrogs, striking out nine while walking only one. Matt Miller (Michigan) picked up his sixth save of the season, getting the final four outs of the game. All-Star pitcher Dixon Anderson took the loss, allowing two earned runs on five hits in five innings.
Trevor Edwards paced the Beetles’ offense, coming through twice with two-out RBI singles. Chase Porch chipped in with an RBI single of his own, resulting in plenty of support for Brown.
Green Bay threatened only once, pushing runners to the corners with two out in the eighth against reliever Kevin Vangheluwe (Michigan). But Miller came on to strike out the next batter, leaving the tying run aboard.
In all, the Beetles fanned 12 batters and walked only one, giving up a total of three hits. The win brings the Beetles to within 1.5 games of first place Rochester, now in a three-way tie with St. Cloud and Brainerd.
