Do you like to remember the cars that cruised the streets in the 1940s, 1950s or 1960s? Wouldn’t it be nice if you could see them again? Well, you can at the 18th annual “Roddin’ Round the Lake” event in Osakis on July 10 and 11.
Thunder will roll through the streets of Osakis starting on Friday with registration beginning at 4 p.m. at NAPA. Any kind of car, new or old, is welcome to enter for a fee of $10.
The festivities will really kick off on Saturday with activities for every age. A show-n-shine event will run from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Main Street in Osakis. Chrome will glimmer, engines will roar, and you’ll have no problem finding a proud owner willing to tell you all about their car.
From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. attendees can participate in “Boppin’ ‘Round Town.” During this event, participants will be visiting designated businesses to collect stamps and signatures. Whoever manages to collect the most will be entered in a drawing for a prize
At 10 a.m. there is going to be a celebrity auction at Pollard Community Center. (See related story). Also for your enjoyment, there will be 1950s music playing downtown from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., and horse-drawn trolley rides sponsored by First National Bank of Osakis.
At 3 p.m., more than 50 plaques, including “People’s Choice” and “Participant’s Choice” will be awarded by area businesses. Kids can also win prizes at the kids’ prize giveaway.
After the awards, all the cars will take to the streets and cruise from Main Street to the Community Memorial Home to parade their cars through the parking lot for the residents to enjoy.
There will also be a campfire for participants at 6:30 p.m. More information about the campfire will be available at the registration booth.
To conclude the weekend’s celebrations, a polka mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
