Osakis team ties for first in walleye tournament

With a total of 29.45 pounds of walleye in their boats, Jeff Larson and Ryan Larson of Osakis tied with Don Neubarth of Hutchinson and Rich Schnitlzer of Dassel to capture top honors in the 29th annual Osakis Lions Walleye Tournament.

The pair of teams topped the field of 67 two-person teams to win $4,355 each, up from the field of 62 teams last year.

Several large fish were caught in the event as the Larsons pulled in the largest walleye on day one at 7.15 pounds, while J. Wessel and G. Walter of Sauk Centre were day two winners of the largest walleye with a 6.45-pounder.

The largest northern went to K. Novotny and D. Ryks of Willmar with a fish weighing 8.05 pounds.

Three fish weighing more than six pounds were caught on Saturday and another two on Sunday.

In all, 185 pounds of fish were caught on day one, with day two bringing in 194 pounds.

Most of the fish were returned to the lake, with the remainder being donated to Galeon for a fish fry.
