Beetles: O'Neill out one to two weeks

By: By Andrew Tichy Beetles' Director of Media Relations, Alexandria Echo Press

Mike O’Neill (USC) started his 98th consecutive game in the NWL on Monday. That streak snapped on Tuesday, as O’Neill will be left out of the lineup following an injury sustained during Monday’s game.

O’Neill, after laying down a perfect sacrifice bunt to third, collided with the first baseman as the throw hit him in the helmet. As it turns out, the everyday centerfielder suffered a grade-two sprain to his right ankle, which will sideline him for at least one week, but possibly two or more weeks.

Fortunately, O’Neill will not need to leave town for any special rehab treatments, and will return to the lineup at his own pace.

O’Neill tied a NWL record when he played in all 68 regular season games last summer, and added five playoff games on the total as a member of the Thunder Bay Border Cats.
