Celebrate in Osakis this weekend
The 41st annual Osakis Festival begins this week, kicking off a summer of fun in the Lake Osakis area.

With the theme – New Beginnings 2009: You Can Make a Difference – organizers planned this year’s events to honor the many people of this community who contribute to make it a fine place to live.
Here’s a breakdown of the events scheduled throughout the festival.
Friday, June 26
It’s senior day in Osakis Friday, June 26 with many events taking place at the Pollard Community Center in Osakis.
•Senior bake sale – 9 a.m. until gone. Get a taste of Osakis goodies made by many of our best local cooks.
•Roast beef dinner and music – 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Advance reservations required by calling (320) 859-2325.
•Bingo – 1:15 to 3:15 p.m. Free bingo, refreshments and prizes.
•Ladies Festival Bunko – 6 p.m. at Just Like Grandma’s. Come for supper or simply come and enjoy this ladies night out. The fast-paced dice game is simple and easy to learn. Participants are asked to arrive early. The game will start promptly at 7 p.m.
If you don’t know how to play, or need a refresher, a quick breakdown of the game will take place before 7 p.m.

Saturday, June 27
Plan to spend the day at Park Osagi on Lake Street in Osakis for family fun day. Events include:
•Flea market, craft sales and food vendors – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
•Face painting and tattoos – all day. Sponsored by the OWA.
•Antique tractor show – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
•Sand pile money hunt – 10 a.m. Sponsored by First National Bank of Osakis.
•DJ Dwayne (Tyron) Evert – 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
•Pony rides – 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $3 per ride.
•Kids old-fashioned races – 1 p.m. for children ages 3 to 12 and an egg toss event for kids 13 and older.
•Pie eating contest – 2 to 3 p.m.
•Mystery games – 2:30 p.m.
•Fire department water fights – 6:30 p.m.
•Street dance – 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Osakis Liquor Store parking lot. Music by Empty Pockets.
Sunday, June 28
•Flea market, craft sales and food vendors – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Park Osagi.
•Grand parade – 1 p.m. The annual grand parade starts at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, running east down Oak Street, turning north onto Central Avenue all the way to Lake Street and continues east to end at Park Osagi.
Grand marshals are Connie Ferris and Bruce Pederson.
•Sheltered Reality in concert – 4 p.m. at Park Osagi.
